Tech Tools for Instruction and Assessment

Picture
Though technology itself is not a 21st Century skill, the use of technology can certainly transform both instruction and assessment.  But technology is best when it aims at higher level skills (evaluation, analysis, and synthesis) and divergent thinking.  Both seem daunting to many teachers, but really aren't that hard.   As someone who focuses on higher achieving students, technology is a natural connection to their level of thinking and helps motivate and inspire these students.   It was only natural to examine all the possibilities technology has to offer in order to help service these kids -- and then see where these tools can take us for all learners.

There are literally thousands of web-based applications out there to use for both instruction and assessment.  Listed below are tools I have used or looked at closely.  This site is not meant to be a comprehensive list of Web 2.0 tools.  But hopefully the work on these pages can get you started!

Please note that certain tools might appear on more than one list.  One of the wonderful things about Web 2.0 tools is that they frequently address more than one area of higher level learning!
